The Department of Electronics Design is situated at Campus Sundsvall. In addition to its research activities, it offers courses and programmes in the subjects Electronics, Electrical engineering and Sound production. The research of the department is conducted at the research centre STC (Sensible Things that Communicate, www.miun.se/stc).
The research center STC (Sensible Things that Communicate, visit www.miun.se/stc for more information) has a position open for PhD students in the SMART project – Smart systems and services. The research will be carried out in collaboration with industrial partners in a larger Project integrating technology challenges of smart systems within the fields of smart systems and services in the application areas of smart cities, large area surveillance and efficient production.
Job description: The position focuses on embedded computing architectures for sensor systems. Emphasis will be on developing computer architectures, computing strategies and evaluating these by combining challenges such as low power consumption, energy communication, cost, and complexity.

Requirements and assessment: To meet the basic entry requirements for doctoral programmes applicants must have a second-cycle degree or have completed studies of at least 240 higher education credits, out of which at least 60 credits were awarded in the second-cycle, or equivalent. Specific eligibility requires at least 90 credits in electrical engineering, computer engineering or closely related subjects, or that the applicant in some other way in Sweden or abroad has acquired largely equivalent knowledge.
In addition to the formal qualifications, the selection will also be based on other work (i.e. thesis work), courses and applicant interviews. Prior experience in design and programming of embedded systems and configurable computational platforms are considered an advantage. Personal qualities like teamwork skills, spirit of initiative, and suitability for PhD studies will be weighted together with the formal subject knowledge. A short description of the applicants’ visions and goals should be included in the application.
Terms of employment: The post graduate position is intended to be an employment equivalent to two years of full-time research studies and aims to lead to a Licentiate degree. The appointment may be extended to a doctor’s degree, provided that additional funding is obtained. Starting date is determined after selection.
Salary: In accordance with the salary recommendations for PhD students.
