Faculty of Science, Technology and Media

The Department of Electronics Design is situated at Campus Sundsvall. In addition to its research activities, it offers courses and programmes in the subjects Electronics, Electrical engineering and Sound production. The research of the department is conducted at the research centre STC (Sensible Things that Communicate, www.miun.se/stc).

Duties
In line with societal progress, the borders between the “normal” society and industry is fading and a situation arises where the two need to be able to coexist. Intelligent measurement systems, consisting of multiple sensor nodes that interact, can result in considerably better and more accurate decision-making. At the STC research centre, we call this “next-generation measurement systems (XGEMS)” or “taking the environment into the control-loop”. In this area, several research groups at the centre cooperates. Duties for the professor include adopting a leading role in the strategic development of research/education in the area of XGEMS.

As a professor, you also have responsibilities for teaching and supervision at all educational levels, as well as own research, planning, applications for research funding and management and participation in research projects. Duties also include to inform about research and to cooperate with society at large. Tasks of an administrative nature, including management, may also arise. Furthermore, it is expected that the holder of this position contributes to the development and continuity of the subject. This requires presence at the workplace.

Eligibility and assessment criteria 
To be eligible for the position of professor you must have proven scientific and teaching proficiency (Chapter 4, Section 3 of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance) in the subject and have the other abilities needed to carry out the duties of the position well.  In addition, the eligibility requirements and assessment criteria described in Mid Sweden University’s Employment procedures and the Qualifications criteria for employment as a professor at the Faculty of Science, Technology and Media  are applicable.

In the assessment process, special consideration will be given to scientific merits and skills, which shown by the applicant in research. These merits and skills should significantly exceeds that which is required for appointment as an associate professor.

In addition to the above eligibility requirements and assessment criteria, the following qualifications are particularly advantageous:

  • The applicant shall have a wide range of competencies in the subject of Electronics with a focus on metrology.
  • Documented experience of duties comprising management/leadership and experience of running major research projects.
  • Previous experience of applying machine learning and “soft sensors” in the metrology area.
  • Very good ability to communicate in English, both written and spoken.
  • Administrative skills.

Additional merits taken into account are:

  • Experience of work with the measurement of "environmental parameters” for control and decision-making in industrial and societal processes.
  • Professional experience in the area of metrology.
  • Ability to communicate in Swedish

Procedure: The employment process follows the principles laid out in Chapter 4 of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance and proceeds in accordance with the employment procedures applicable to Mid Sweden University.
